The Ermine Coat

Provenance

  • Date unknown: acquired by James Staats Forbes (1823-1904) ;
  • 1904: passed to his executors;
  • 1904: on 7 June, Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) , Detroit, left a bid with William Stephen Marchant (1868-1925) , London art dealer, for 14 drawings from the Forbes collection;
  • 1905: Freer 's offer was accepted (Freer Diary; 24 July 1905);
  • 1919: bequeathed to the Freer Gallery of Art.
