Beaker

Description

                    Beaker, Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute
Beaker, Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute

A stdy of a beaker, lit from the left and throwing a shadow behind and to right. This is a study for Beaker [M.0615].

The Thompson catalogue described this beaker as one of two: 'Two Beakers, with expanding necks (companions to the above); ornamented in a similar manner, with the addition of two running bands of flowers. Height, 15 ½ inches.' 1 For the 'above', see Double Gourd Vase and Saucer-Shaped Dish [M.0613].

The decoration (ornamental bands and stylised flowers, with panels containing the elongated figures of women) is only cursorily indicated.

Notes:

1: Thompson 1878 [more] , p. 7 (cat. no. 27) repr. pl. 10.
