  • Date unknown: owned by Pickford Robert Waller (1849-1930) .
  • 1923: bought from William Stephen Marchant (1868-1925) , art dealer, by Colnaghi's, London art dealers, 16 February 1923;
  • 1923: transferred to Knoedler's, New York art dealers, 14 June 1923;
  • 1961: sold to a private collector;
  • 1988: bought by Hope Davis, New York art dealer, and sold to a private collector;
  • 1989: bought back and sold by Davis to another private collector.

The early history is unclear. Judging by a label, it may have been exhibited or sold in Paris at some time. See MacDonald 1995 (cat. rais.) [more] (cat. no. 686).
