The Large Pool

Provenance

  • Date unknown: possibly owned by Joshua Hutchinson Hutchinson (b. ca 1829-d.1891) .
  • Date unknown: said to have bought from Messrs Dowdeswell, London, by Maggs, London dealers;
  • 1937: sold at auction, Maggs, London, 1937 (cat. no. 123).
  • Date unknown: with Castano, Boston dealers;
  • Date unknown: bought by Steven Juvelis (b. 1921), art dealer, Boston, MA;
  • 1962: sold at auction, Christie's, London, 22 June 1962 (lot 12) as 'The Large Pool', and bought by 'Rogers'.

Most of the above provenance was suggested by Juvelis. The dates are uncertain. It is however, possible that the sketch was owned by Hutchinson: see Sketch [M.1327].
