Provenance

• 1908: 'Hastings Fishing Boats' was sent by Obach, London dealers, to Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919), Detroit, on 13 October, but returned on 31 December;
• 1911: Hastings [M.0830] and Hastings: fishing boats [M.0832] were possibly consigned by Obach & Co., to be sold at auction, Christie's, London, 21 July 1911 (lot 80) and bought by 'Baines' or 'Barnes';
• 1912: with Colnaghi (successors to Obach), London art dealers.
• Date unknown: with Charles William Dowdeswell (1832-1915), London art dealer (stamp on verso);
• Date unknown: acquired by George Edward Healing (1871-1953), 54 Richmond Road;
• 1953: after his death, sold at auction, Sotheby's, London, 18 November 1953 (lot 64) as 'Boats at Hastings' and bought by Leger, London art dealer.
• 1965: sold at auction, Sotheby's, London, 14 April 1965 (lot 39) as 'Fishing Boats drawn up on the beach at Hastings' and bought by a private collector.
• 2013: given by Paula Crane Lunder (b. 1935) and Peter H. Lunder (b. 1933) to Colby College Museum of Art.
