Battersea

Provenance

  • Date unknown: acquired by George Aloysius Lucas (1824-1909) , Paris art dealer;
  • 1909: bequeathed to the Maryland Institute, and placed on loan in the Baltimore Museum of Art;
  • 1996: The George A. Lucas Collection, purchased by Baltimore Museum of Art with funds from the State of Maryland, Laurence and Stella Bendann Fund, and contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations throughout the Baltimore community.

This may have been acquired directly from Whistler by Lucas, before 1888, or through Maud Franklin (1857-ca 1941) thereafter, but this has not been confirmed.
