  • Before 1942: given by Elizabeth Spencer Hunter, Mrs Frank House Baer (1873 or 1877-1942), Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, to her daughter, Elizabeth Spencer Baer Keys (1915-1942), Dolling Park, Florida;
  • Before 1942: acquired from Mrs Keys by a private collector, St Petersburg, Florida;
  • 2006: sold at auction, Sotheby's, New York, 24 May 2006 (lot 39) as 'Blue and Violet II'.
  • 2013: given by Paula Crane Lunder (b. 1935) and Peter H. Lunder (b. 1933) to Colby College Museum of Art.

The early provenance is unknown, and the records of the Baer family have not been confirmed.
