It was painted with pale washes and drops of colour. The children were painted over the shopfront, in grey and black with touches of colour. The area to right of the little girl has been rubbed out and altered.

The paper was commercially prepared, laid down on card, with a little tab of paper at the centre of each side stuck round to the back of the card. The paper has a slight horizontal pebble grain.
