A wide range of colour was applied in dots and longer strokes, sometimes rubbed in, sometimes using the flat end of the pastel. The legs and robe of the girl on the left (Eva, holding a red necklace) have been partly rubbed out. Charcoal lines with alternative poses and draperies are sketched in.
The paper is fibrous, with dots of wood-stalk, but little grain, and is uneven along the top.
