This was drawn for publication in Whistler 1899 (F)[more] , p. 43.
However, the butterfly actually used on p. 43 was taken from Whistler 1890 [more] , p. 11.
Whistler undoubtedly had intended it to be changed. He may have hoped that Heinemann would bring out a second edition, with certain butterflies changed, for he wrote in May 1899, 'And now McColl must get out the proper Butterflies - you know the two that he must reduce - Do see that he gets them all right and smart - and at once! -' 1
