  • 1903: 'Gray and Gold - Belle Isle' was sold on 8 May by the artist to Richard Albert Canfield (1855-1914) of Providence, R.I.;
  • 1914: sold on 12 March to Knoedler, New York dealers;
  • 1914: bought in May by Henry Hornblower (1863-1941), Arlington, MA;
  • 1941-1989: passed by family descent, to his daughter, and grandchildren;
  • 1988: on loan to Portland Museum of Art in 1988;
  • 1989: anonymous gift to Portland Museum of Art.
