  • 1903: sold by Whistler to Richard Albert Canfield (1855-1914) ;
  • 1914: sold to Knoedler's, New York dealers, on 12 March;
  • 1914: sold in April to Howard Mansfield (1849-1938) but returned and sold to Henry Clay Frick (1849-1919) in December.
  • 1981: with Newhouse Gallery, New York;
  • 1981: sold through Davis and Long to Daniel J. Terra (1911-1996) ;
  • 1996: Terra Foundation for American Art, Chicago;
  • 2004: following the closure of the Terra Museum of American Art, works on paper were transferred on loan to the Art Institute of Chicago.
