Provenance

• 1903: in Whistler's studio at his death, and bequeathed to his ward and executrix, Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) ;
• 1956: bought on 11 May by Colnaghi's, Londoln sart dealers, and sold on 18 May to Edward Brian Seago (1910-1974) ;
• 1974: bequeathed to Peter Seymour (fl. 1952) , Ludham. Norfolk, and later bequeathed to a private owner.
