  • 1903: in Whistler's studio at his death, and bequeathed to his ward and executrix, Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) ;
  • 1955: bought on 25 June by Colnaghi's, London art dealers;
  • 1956: sold in March to a private collector, who gave it to her son;
  • 1986: sold at auction, Christie's, New York, 14 March 1986 (lot 96, repr.).
  • 1989: sold at auction, Sotheby's, London, 10 May 1989 (lot 31) and bought by Ira Spanierman (n/a) , New York dealer.
  • 2013: sold at auction, Doyle, New York, 5 November (lot 151) as 'The Workshop, Ajaccio'.
