The drawing is only 55 mm high. It may represent The Artist in his Studio (Whistler in his Studio) [YMSM 063], which was owned Douglas William Freshfield (1845-1934) in 1902. Another version, The Artist's Studio [YMSM 062], was for sale at Robinson & Fisher's about 1901, until, in the middle of the auction, Whistler announced it was not his work (which was not true) so that it failed to sell. After Whistler's death, his lawyer declared that Whistler said that it was in fact his work. 1
