Portrait of a Young Girl

Titles

Only one title has been suggested:

  • 'Portrait of a Young Girl' (1980, YMSM). 1

Description

On 10 April 1876 the New York Herald described it as 'the full sized portrait of a charming young girl, with hat resting coquettishly on one side of her head.'

Sitter

This could conceivably have been a portrait of Maud Franklin (1857-ca 1941), possibly either Harmony in Black and Red [YMSM 236] or Portrait of Maud Franklin [YMSM 353], in which the model wears a hat. However, she was not really a 'young girl', being 19 years old.

Notes:

1: YMSM 1980 [more] (cat. no. 176).
