Note in Blue and Green

Provenance

  • Nothing is known of its history.

Exhibitions

  • Anglo-Australian Society of Artists, London, 1885 (cat. no. 1) as 'Note in Blue and Green'.

A critic described it as 'fine in tone ... and with a certain suggestion of form.' 1

It was probably the Australian-born artist Mortimer Luddington Menpes (1860-1938) who persuaded Whistler to exhibit with the Anglo-Australian Society of Artists.
