Design for wall decorations for Aubrey House

Provenance

  • 1903: possibly in Whistler's studio at his death and bequeathed to his sister-in-law and executrix, Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) , or returned to Miss Birnie Philip after Whistler's death;
  • 1958: bequeathed by Miss Birnie Philip to the University of Glasgow.

It is possible this was among works returned to Miss Philip by William Cleverly Alexander (1840-1916).

Exhibitions

There is no record of an exhibition in Whistler's lifetime.
