  • 1903: in Whistler's studio at his death and bequeathed to his sister-in-law, Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) , London;
  • Date unknown: given to her doctor, Dr Dykes-Bower, London;
  • 1972: with Spink & Son, London dealers, in July;
  • 1974-1978: sold to William Darby, London dealer, by June 1874, and sent to Davis and Long, New York dealers, who bought it on 5 January 1978;
  • Date unknown: sold to a private collector, California;
  • 1989: sold from the estate of Victor Rosen, Beverly Hills, California, at auction, Christie's, London, 3 March 1989 (lot 301) as 'A Cloaked Demon' and 'Two Figures', and bought by a private collector.
