Described in the catalogue of the Memorial Exhibition of the Works of the late James McNeill Whistler, First President of The International Society of Sculptors, Painters and Gravers, New Gallery, Regent Street, London, 1905 (cat. no. 167) as 'Mother and Child': 'The mother in light draperies, her nude child rests its head on her lap. On the back is a study of drapery.'
