Provenance

  • 1902: sold on 16 June by Whistler to Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) , Detroit, but left with the artist for further work;
  • 1903: probably sent to Freer after Whistler's death;
  • 1919: bequeathed to the Freer Gallery of Art.
