Interior, people

Provenance

  • 1903: in Whistler's studio at his death, and bequeathed to his ward and executrix, Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) .

It is not certain to what this title refers, since there are several drawings that could fit, including The Work Shop, Ajaccio [M.1682] and Ajaccio [M.1684].

Exhibitions

'Pencil drawing ... Interior people' was listed by Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) possibly in connection with the Paris 1905 memorial exhibition. 1 It could possibly be Ajaccio [M.1684], which is described as a 'dainty drawing with soft lines' on a sheet of paper probably taken from a sketchbook. 2
